Jeff Antoniuk and The Jazz Update - "Blues for JD Salinger"

My first time hearing Jeff Antoniuk and his band, The Jazz Update, was at a Jazzway 6004 house concert. Simply put, Jeff is an amazing musician. Amazing, not only in his playing, but as a bandleader as well. Another thing that struck me was the 13-year-old girl in the front row. Her only request was "Blues for JD Salinger," an original composition on Antoniuk's 2006 CD, Here Today. "Blues for JD Salinger" paid tribute to the “Catcher in the Rye” author well before his passing. Jeff Antoniuk and Jazz Update have numerous dates already scheduled throughout DC, Baltimore, and Annapolis. In May, The Jazz Update will be featured at the Juneau Jazz and Classics Festival in Juneau, Alaska where they will unveil their new CD, Brotherhood.

Sarah Blacker - "Sandpiper"

Sarah Blacker is gradually making a name for herself by writing good songs, consistently playing out live, and communicating with her fans through her website and social networking.  Sarah just completed tours of the East Coast and Midwest, as well as a string of CD release shows in the Northeast.  Most recently, she traveled to Texas for some industry networking at SXSW, and of course a few dates surrounding her time at SXSW to unleash her unique vocal stylings on the people of the Lone Star state. Her upcoming tour schedule is taking shape with more gigs in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic already booked.

The Morning Life - "Heavy Hail"

The New Orleans five-piece known as The Morning Life is full of seasoned musicians, but their sound is something that can't be measured by combined talent. Friends long before forming The Morning Life, the members [Bobby Hoerner (vocals), Jack Miele (guitar), David Philastre (guitar), Graham Robinson (bass) and Woody Dantagnan (drums)] have all had their share of success playing in other bands. Their debut release "Old Hymns of a New Age" is getting rave reviews from members of G. Love & Special Sauce, The Subdudes, Marc Broussard, Cowboy Mouth, and The Vettes. Buy this album, and if you're in or around New Orleans, be sure to check them out live at one of their upcoming gigs.
